RyanC joined Hack Forums with his current username on the 2nd of September, 2012. He initially joined the site so he could teach people about the different ways to properly perform website hacks. Although his posts were seemingly rude and offensive to some, he did post some of the most informative threads in the Website and Forum hacking section. Shortly after joining, the owner of the Root usergroup, Castle Bravo saw his potential and made Ryan both a member and a leader of the group. For the next 7 months, Ryan posted very informative threads in the Website & Forum hacking section, detailing methods to gain access to servers which had not been looked at yet on Hack Forums. It was during this time which he was also given the Black hat award for hacking a website which was controlled by Omniscient. He had a close call with being banned for having the name of LulzSec’s former leader in his user title.
On the 3rd of March 2013, the Root group was to be sold by Castle Bravo to Hawkode for a sum of $4000 which had already been accepted, so Ryan and Castle decided to play some pranks on the forum. They firstly had threads stuck inside of the Root sub-forum, then Castle moved these threads to the lounge, with his moderator abilities. This meant that the Mentors could not un-sticky these threads, which contained information about Omniscient having passed away and Ryan would be controlling the site from now on. In retaliation to this, on the 5th of March, Omniscient posted a thread stating that the group would be closed and all leaders would also have their account closed.
On the 2nd of June 2013, RyanC came back to Hack Forums by hacking the account, e-mail address and PayPal of the group owner and user Tibit. During this time, he removed all standard members from the usergroup Empire and added another 2000 to the group. He then proceeded to reverse all payments which were in Tibit’s PayPal account, totalling many thousands of dollars.
When asked if he would like to give a statement, he simply said:
- Former leader of Root
- Complicit in the hacking of Hack Forums' payment database
Contributions, Trivia, and Personal Interests
- Web Security
- Website/Online Hacking and Analysis
