HackerCraft is the official Minecraft server of Hack Forums which was founded on October 1, 2012 by Omniscient and Mr H. It was confirmed here that the server will follow a faction-style gameplay which will allow the players on the server to create factions or guilds. The factions can claim territory that will be protected from non-members. Factions can forge alliances and declare themselves enemies with others. Land may be taken from other factions through war. As the HackerCraft server is a commercial venture, Omniscient proposed the concept here that diamonds, emeralds and factions would be a possible paid option to assist with server costs and retaining a level of overall profit. As forum members didn't like the overall idea of donating to receive both emeralds and diamonds, Omniscient decided that it would be best to not implement that idea and stick with the paid factions option priced at 5,000 in-game dollars, which is equivalent to $50 at store.hackercraft.net.
The Beta phase of gameplay was launched with the assistance of Mr H on 10/09/2012 and DDoS protection was also configured and setup the same day. Due to issues with the data center, Omniscient found himself faced with a multitude of issues on launch and even considered switching to a different network. Two days later, Omniscient announced here that due to the lag and the bad experience he's faced with the data center and DDoS protection service which they offer as an additional service, he'd be best situated elsewhere. With that in mind he decided to increase his current budget of $300 per month to $500 per month which will cover the needs of the users. The server is now currently running on SSD drives with a top tier CPU (central processing unit) and 16 GB RAM. Due to the sudden fault the beta version was officially relaunched on October 11, 2012 with assistance from Mr H.
Those that expressed early interest in purchasing a faction were also awarded with an additional discount coupon to assist with covering the total cost of a paid faction. Mr H was removed from administrator on the same day as Omniscient felt he wasn't needed anymore if the server were to progress further. He was later replaced with Dan. who's had previous experience with running large Minecraft servers. In an attempt to reduce lag and connection problems Omniscient changed the server address to play2.hackercraft.net on November 3, 2012. Due to issues with implementing certain permissions into the server, Omniscient announced that factions will be switched to a free status and that existing users which have already paid will be refunded in full.
On November 7, 2012 the server's economy was reset and those who had played prior to this were rewarded with in-game money to the total of $250 and those that were new received $100. On the same day Omniscient also announced that construction had commenced on the new spawn which is soon to be implemented. A new server address was officially added on December 6, 2012, 44.hackercraft.net. It was also noted that play and play2 will be DNS altered but may not immediately work. The 3rd party DDoS protection was removed from the server on December 8, 2012 following various connection issues. Although it's expected the server will run smoothly as a result of this change due to previous lag issues. As of the December 12, 2012, Dan. was removed from his adminstrative position due to reasons that were not disclosed. Omniscient felt this sudden change was needed if the server were to progress further. The official moderators of HackerCraft are Froggy and Mr Kewl.
